CHAPTER 1

2010: "THAT DOLL CHARACTER"

(COWORKER VIA OUTLOOK EMAIL CHAIN): “Hey everyone it is “XXX” birthday tomorrow. Please reply back with what you will bring to contribute. Carol, please make a card. Use that doll character. Thanks.” Yes, I became “that girl”. The girl you could depend on to make a cool, unqiue, artsy, customized cards for any occasion. Birthday, farewell, congrats, thank you…. You name it, I made it. The “doll character” – as she was called at the time, was a big hit in the office. She remained nameless until 2011.

CHAPTER 2

2011: "GOODWILL FOR LUNCH"

[CULVER CITY, CA ]

Monday through Friday - for 5 years straight, I worked a 9-6 job. It was the same thing everyday. I would get to work, pour myself a very awful tasting, bitter cup of coffee and sit in a very uncomfortable office chair. I would then force my eyeballs to stare into this very small PC screen and check never ending emails. After the email checking, I worked on black and white excel documents (numbers and $$ only! omg) and do repetitive robot-like work. When it was lunchtime, I felt like the world had color again. I discovered the Goodwill store down the street and oh did it bring magic into my life. It fed my soul. It felt like a treasure hunt and a library all at the same time.  As time went on, I realized that one hour a day of playtime at Goodwill wasn't enough because I was still starving for something more at the end of the day.
